"No nation achieves
anything unless its women go
side by side with men even to
the battlefield"
said Qauid-e-Azam the founder of
our country at a convention in
Delhi on 11th April 1946.
Our religion ensures equal rights to women
but due to unfavourable social texture most
of our women remain deprived. Equality of
gender is recognized, accepted and
guaranteed by our constitution under
Articles 25,27,34,35 and 37. Pakistan is a
signatory to the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights and has ratified the Convention
on Elimination of all forms of
Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
We have also formulated a National Policy
for Development and Empowerment of Women (NPDEW).
The Department of Women Development was
created in 2003. Previously it was a part of
other departments like Social Welfare,
Population Welfare and Planning and
Development.
The Women Development Department interalia
is mandated to initiate, process and
implement women specific policies programmes
and projects for their social, economic,
legal and political empowerment and to
organize events for mobilizing awareness and
sensitizing the society about genuine
rights and requirements of women. The
Department also plays the role of a
catalyst, lobbyist, influencer and advocate
for making our society more tolerant
towards women. The Department serves as a
bridge between communities, women of Sindh,
service delivery departments and other
relevant sectors of society for bringing
about positive changes in the lives of women
of Sindh.
