ACHIEVEMENTS

The
Department has focused to develop huge coal
deposits of the province to meet the future energy
need and has so far achieved signing of the
following MOU’s with local and foreign joint
investors:
1. M/s. AES Oasis Limited for
establishment of 1000 MW coalfired power plant at Thar, in pursuance of Bankable Feasibility Study of Thar Coal Mining.
2. M/s. Ukrinterenergo of Ukraine: In
process for feasibility study of Coal Washing
Plant of 1.0 million tons coal annually. 3.
M/s. China National Machinery
Import & Export Corporation of China (CMC) for 250
MW integrated coal mining and coalfired power
generation plant at Sonda-Jherruck in district
Thatta. 4.
M/s. Dadabhoy for establishment of
200 MW coalfired power plant at Sonda- Jherruck in
district Thatta. 5.
M/s. Soneri Energy (Pvt) Limited is
in process of assessment of the Coal
Bed Methane,
coal and physically associated substances and coal
by- products. 6.
MoU signed with Associated Group
for 2X250 MW Thar Block-IV. 7.
Setting-up of Three Reverse Osmosis
Plant at Thar.
8. Two new coal blocks have been added
to the existing blocks in Thar.

INFRASTRUCTURE AT THAR COALFIELD. 1. Electricity :
11 kV feeder emanating from Islamkot Grid Station
to Thar Coal Project with 200 watts transformer
and energized. 2.
500 kV Transmission Line
: Alignment of 500 kV transmission line
has been finalized by WAPDA. 3. Telephone :
Optical fiber cable laying/installation of system
between > Mirpurkhas to Mithi exchanges completed.
100’ high guide tower (1”dia) is to be installed
at Thar coal site with DRS equipment. Telephone
facility is available upto Islamkot. 4. Water Supply :
Water supply line from Mithi to Islamkot and
Islamkot to coal mines (Thario Halepota) has been
completed and water reservoir of 6 lac gallons is
available at coal mine site. 03 lac gallons/day
will be available at site (Block-II).
5. Railway Line :
Pakistan Railway conducted feasibility study of
railway line at Thar coalfield to facilitate
transportation of coal equipment. The railway route has been approved by the Chief Minister,
Sindh. 6. Town Planning of
Islamkot : Town Planning of Islamkot
nearest town to coalfield has also been sponsored
for rehabilitation/resettlement of the
7 Displaced population will
be relocated by providing them all necessary
facilities in the nearest township.Thar Lodge : The scheme for construction
of 20 bedded accommodation to facilitate foreign
and local investors at Islamkot has been approved
at an estimated cost of Rs.40.978 million.
Construction is in progress.
