Program outlets
Family Welfare Centers (FWCs)
The FWC is one
of the main service delivery
networks of the program
established in hired premises in
urban and rural areas. There are
450 FWCs functioning through out
the province. Each centers is
providing services to a population
of 5000 to 7000.
Following services are provided by
each family welfare centre
Family Planning Services
Family Planning Services is
provided to all the desirous
married couples with a whole range
of contraceptives except for CS
and Norplant but including natural
methods along with counseling and
quality of services through static
clinic and outreach approach.
Mother Child Health Care
MCH
services are provided through
antenatal and post natal care
including promotion of vaccination
for mother and children. Pregnant
and lactation’s mothers are
advised for prophylaxis against
tetanus and nutritional anemia.
Child spacing, breast feeding and
proper weaning practices promoted.
Prevention and treatment of
diarrhea is stressed.
Medical Care of Minor Ailments
Facilitates for treatment of minor
ailments are extended to women and
children within the vicinity of
the centre. A standard list of
medicines to be dispensed by the
centre has been prescribed and
provision made for all the
centers.
Reproductive Health Care
Staff of the centre give talk on
health education for personal
hygiene and nutrition ,
physiological body changes at
puberty, self examination of
breast to detect cancer, awareness
of AIDS, recognition of symptom,
of STDs/ RTIs, prevention of
menopause related deficiencies and
refer cases for investigations of
infertility & its treatment.
Satellite Clinics
To
improve the performance of FWCs
and provide family planning
Reproductive Health Services to
the outreach population, the
in-charge of each FWC hold
satellite clinics camps twice a
week in the nearby villages on
fixed days.
Mobile Service Units (MSUs)
At
present 34 Mobile Service Units
are functioning in the province.
Each MSU serves a population of
about 30,000 in tehsil of 5.000
couples (15-20) villages. The
Mobile Service Unit extends
Reproductive Health and family
planning services to the villages
through regular (twice a week)
camping services. It also provides
one day in week, supervision and
on-the-job training to the VBFPWs,
staff of the FWC and outlets of
other line departments.
Reproductive Health Services
Centres (RHSCs)A –type
The
Reproductive Health Services
Centers (RHSCs) are hospital based
units which provide a package of
preventive obstetric /
gynecological, MCH care
consultation for infertility
treatment and full range of family
planning methods including
contraceptives surgery services to
outpatient procedure with safe and
effective back up medical support
to the clients. These centres also
assist in public health education
campaign, awareness raising and
counseling about personal hygiene
an nutrition, breast feeding and
weaning information on AIDS
prevention STD/ RTIs,
physiological body change at
puberty, menopausal related
deficiencies as well as referral
for its treatment services. These
services contribute to reduction
in infant and maternal morbidity/
mortality leading to improvement
in general health and reduction in
fertility.
RHS training centers also provide
training to medical persons in
contraceptives surgery procedures
and to paramedical staff in
management of operation theatre.
There are 28 RHS-A Centers,
functioning through out the
province. These centres are
located in all Civil Hospitals of
District Headquarters attached
with Gynae Ward. The Reproductive
Health Services component also
includes training activities to
ensure availability of trained
medical and para-medical staff to
manage / provide quality
Reproductive Health Services in
the program. Training is also
provided to non program docotrs/
paramedics to increase the
availability of Contraceptive
Surgery (CS) facilities. Jinnah
Post Graduate Medical Center (JPMC),
Karachi has been upgraded to RHS
Master Training Center. Four other
RHS- A Centres, at Abbasi Shaheed
Hospital, Karachi. Mobile Family
Clinics, RTI Hyderabad, Sheikh
Zaid Hospital, Larkana and
Nawabshah Medical College
Hospital, Nawabshah have also been
upgraded as RHS Training Centers.
Male
Mobilizer
To expand the Family Planning
Services at the door step target
populations a scheme was introduce
d on pilot basis on community
oriented rural basis approach
called Male Mobilizer. An earlier
evaluation of the scheme shows
that the scheme was expected and
appropriate way to deliver family
planning services in rural areas
and that is why the scheme was
expected and appropriate way to
deliver Family Planning Services
in rural areas and that is why the
scheme was expended throughout the
province . At present there are
345 male workers in field and
providing family planning services
as well as treatment of minor
ailment.
Non program outlets
a) Population Welfare Services
through health outlets of Health &
other Line Departments
The program service provision is
being continually broadcast to
enhance coverage and improve
outreach involvement of health
outlets of other organizations.
This in turn help to pay special
attention to different targets
group and improve access to
services as well. 1175 outlets of
various organization were
associated in the delivery of
services.
These outlets are equipped by
providing related training and
refresher on management of
services, motivation and
counseling, documentation,
treatment of side effect etc. and
provision of related supplies with
provision for replacement, IEC
material, sign board,
contraceptives etc. in order to
dispense reproductive health
services including family planning
on the pattern of family welfare
centres .
The
District Offices are coordinate
with the DHO and in-charge of the
respective organization to jointly
monitor progress visit the
outlets, review performance and
skill development of staff, work
out details to provide mutual
support in improving the services
through effective referral system
, optional use of the facilities
of both the organizations.
Reproductive Health Centres
B-types
Hospitals having operating
facilities and trained manpower
interested to perform
contraceptive surgery are
designated as ‘B’ type RHS-
Centres and enlisted with the
program for providing the
services. These include district
and tehsil level hospitals of PLDs
, surgical centres of the Non
Governmental Organizations,
private hospitals and charitable
etc.
The hospitals registered as RHS-B
Centres is provided training for
doctors and paramedics and minilap
/ vasectomy kits on successful
completion of training. Efforts
will be made to spread the network
of RHS-B centres to tehsil level.
Involvement of Registered Medical
Practitioners, Hakims & Homeopaths
The
Registered Medial Practitioners (RMPs)
are importance source of health
care provision in both the urban
and rural areas of the country,
thus this sector has waste
potential for promotion of family
planning services.
These Registered Medical
Practitioners, Hakims & Homeopaths
have been associated in the
program to serve as agent of
change, refer desirous clients to
service points of the program and
also participate in the service
delivery through own clinics and
matabs. At present 6200 RMPs and
2600 Hakims and 1200 Homeopaths
were given orientation and
enlisted as service point for
dispensing contraceptives .
Training to the RMPs imparted at
Regional Training Institute, as
well as Reproductive Health
Service- A Centres at district
level . The RHS-A Centres, doctors
were imparted 3 days training in
teaching methodology at RTIs to
serve as trainer .
Upon completion of training, the
male RMPs are given family
planning display board, IEC
material, recording register and
supply of contraceptives at normal
cost as being charged from other
outlets. While the female RMPS in
addition are provided an IUCD kit
Family Planning Services
Family planning advice and
services is provided to all
eligible couples. A wide range of
safe and effective contraceptives
is supplied to the clients. Oral
Pills ,Condom , Injectable and
IUCD are sold at the approved
subsidized rate . It is assume
that non client is forced to adopt
any particular method. They are
informed about all method, so that
they are able to choose any method
according to their desire. Short
