DAILY REQUIREMENT OF KARACHI CITY

 

MILK REQUIREMENTS

 

Karachi city has the requirement of 8 million litres of milk per day out of which, 3.5 million litres are produced by urban and peri-urban producers around Karachi and 0.7 million litres are transported from the interior of Sindh. There is a gap of approximately 3.8 million litres. During the year 2000-01, milk & milk products worth Rs. 705.605 million including milk powder equal to 80,000 tons of liquid milk was imported.

 

MEAT REQUIREMENTS OF KARACHI

 

In Karachi, there is a demand for about 1000 metric tones of meat whereas the supply is hardly 20%, through weaker animals and immature calves. There is an increasing domestic demand and export to Middle East. There is also high demand of good quality Beef at four and five star hotels, multinational fast food companies and national/International flight kitchens and ships.

 

 

ESTABLISHMENT OF DAIRY VILLAGE AND EXPORT PROCESSING ZONE AT GHAGHAR PHATAK< KARACHI (Rs:399 m) 

 This will be a pilot “DAIRY VILLAGE” on 800 acres of land. Future planning is to establish 20/20 dairy villages on each super / national highways on state land (unutilized).

 

100 farmers will be accommodated with 5 acres land to each (on lease of30 yrs extendable).

 

On 300 acres of land other facilities viz. animal health / A.I, Roads, Water Supply, drainage, pond (washing & wallowing) electricity, Sui Gas, *Feed Mill, *Biogas Plant, *Chilling Unit, Medical / Education facilities, Milk Plant and Market.

 

Each farmer has to start with 200 buffaloes 7 increase gradually to 400. He will carryout work under agreement signed by him with the department that he will not slaughter the dry buffaloes and new born calves.

 

Availability of milk replacer will be ensured through milk plant.

 

Dairy village will provide employment to more than 2000 persons and produce 2 Lac Litres Milk daily in initial stage and after 2 years that will be doubled.

 

 

EXPORT PROCESSING ZONE FOR MEAT ANIMALS

 

The “EXPORT PROCESSING ZONE” for meat animals is proposed on 500 acres of land, for 100 farms, each on 3 acres on lease for different farming(s) viz. Rearing of buffalo calves, feed lot units of Thari male calves, fattening of weaker animals, breeding of Thari cattle (cross with Exotic semen of Beef Breeds “A” Grade).

 

200 acres of land will be utilized for other facilities like housing, roads, markets, feed mill, animal health / A.I facility, Slaughter House with meat processing unit.

 

The farmers will be provided incentive in shape of export 50% produce.

 

The schemes of Dairy villages & Export Processing Zone will meet the increasing demands of Karachi and other neighboring big cities for Milk & Meat and open venue for export.

 

 

 

ESTABLISHMENT OF CATTLE COLONIES IN SINDH WITH DISTRICT & PRIVATE PARTICIPATION (PHASE-I) (Rs. 395 million)

 

Cattle Colonies will be established on 27 different locations viz. Mithi, Thatta, Shahdadkot, T.M.Khan, Ghotki, Umerkot, Dhoronaro, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Matiari, Kaloi, Jamshoro, Sanghar, Sukkur, Shikarpur, N.Feroze, Mehrabpur, Kandhkot, Jacobabad, Dadu, Tando Adam, Shadi Large, Kashmore, Larkana, Shahdadkot, Tando Allahyar and Naukot.

 

The priority will be given to those areas where 200 acres of land will be made available.

 

Each colony will employ directly about 500 persons and produce about 50,000 Litres of Milk daily.
