Sindhi Language Authority

Sindhi Language Authority was established in 1991 in pursuance of “Teaching, Promotion and use of Sindhi Language” Act 1972. Board of Governors is the Supreme body for taking major decisions, making guidelines and monitor/ supervise the working of the authority. The Chairman of the Authority, who was appointed in 2005 has been replaced with an eminent scholar, educationist and known literary figure Dr. Fahmida Hussain. A new board of Governors has been constituted in June, 2008.

Established in 1991 in pursuance of Sindh   (Teaching, Promotion and use of Sindhi      

       Language) Act 1972 and Amendment Act     1990.

 Board consists of 16 members (5 official &     11 non official members)  Board is under re-   constitution.

 

Objectives

The main objectives of Sindhi Language Authority are: 

 To promote Sindhi Language and literature.

  Teaching of Sindhi to non-Sindhi officers.

  Production & translation of books in

   Sindhi, particularly reference material and    technical books. 

 

Sindhi Language Authority receives Rs. 5 million annual grant from Sindh Government which is insufficient.                

Annual salary bill of the Authority is Rs. 7 million.

Annual grant be increased to Rs. 10 million.

Development Scheme at cost of Rs.30. Million has been started for printing of books, establishment of language laboratory and preparation of Sindhi Encyclopedia.
