Agriculture is the mainstay of Pakistan's economy.  

1. One-fourth of total output (Gross Domestic Product-GDP) and 44%  
    total employment is generated by agriculture.

2. 67.5 % of the country population living in rural areas is directly or  
    indirectly linked with agriculture for their livelihood.

The Economic development of Sindh largely depends on the progress and growth of Agriculture Sector. The province contributes significantly towards overall national agriculture production in major crops:

• 32%           in National Rice Production

• 24%            in National Sugarcane Production

• 12%            in National Cotton Production

• 21%            in National Wheat Production

Major thrust of the Agriculture Department will be:  

• Modernization of agriculture research.

• Advancement of mechanized agriculture.

• Strong market information system.

• Improved agriculture extension service.

• Water Management.
